We utilize the Myotronics K7 and T Scan III to analyze your bite, muscles and TMJ.
There are four main components to our computerized analysis of your teeth, muscles and joints. The first is Electrosonography. A sensor that looks like a pair of headphones is placed over the joints. These sensors pick up tissue and joint vibrations. The vibrations are displayed on a computer screen so Dr. Hedge can study the frequency, magnitude, and timing of the sounds.

The second component we look at is Surface Electromyography. When muscles are functioning, they generate tiny electrical signals. These signals can be detected through electrodes adhered to the skin. This is very similar to the electrode leads used to detect heart function in Electrocardiograms. When muscles are at rest, they should not have any electrical activity. Dr. Hedge measures the four main muscle groups involved in jaw movement and head posture. When these muscles are elevated at rest, they are in some form of spasm to compensate for a bad bite (occlusion) or posture. The muscle activity is displayed on a computer screen as seen below. The muscle groups on the left are elevated and the groups on the right are relaxed.

The third component is the Computerized Jaw Tracking. Dr. Hedge utilizes this to precisely measure opening and closing patterns and to look at the range of motion of the lower jaw in three dimensions. This allows him to guide you to the perfect bite that will allow your muscles to relax and function comfortably.

The final component in the computerized analysis is with the T Scan. The T Scan consists of a computerized wafer you bite on. It shows where your teeth hit, how hard and in what order. This is a high tech version of the blue paper your dentist has had you bite on in the past.

Dr. Hedge will use all of these scans coupled with the appropriate X Rays and models of your teeth to come up with a treatment plan to make you better.
